Tunisia

Still grounds for concern

SEE THE #MomProject ABOUT TUNISIAN MEDIA INDEPENDENCE

The democratic transition is still underway in Tunisia and the country has not yet reached full press freedom. In 2017, Tunisian civil society organizations and international NGOs expressed concern about the foot-dragging and shortcomings in drafting new legislation for the media. Journalists continue to be harassed and occasionally arrested. The correspondents of some international media outlets were briefly arrested during a wave of street protests at the end of 2017.
