RSF supports…

With the aim of bringing its fight for the freedom of information to life and spreading its message throughout the world, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has forged close relations with partners from the cultural, educational and event sectors. They share our values, our ideals, and contribute to the visibility of our actions. Events, prizes, films, educational programs: we contribute and support initiatives that make our struggles resonate with a new voice.

Events

Whether we are co-organizers, programmers or simple guests, here are the major events we support:

A major festival for the profession, Visa Pour L'Image has been rewarding the best subjects in photojournailism from around the world since 1989. The city of Perpignan hosts this internationally renowned festival, and lives to the rhythm of press photography for two weeks. On the program: exhibitions, round tables, meetings, screenings and signing events.

An unmissable event for discussion and reflection on journalistic practice. What challenges does journalism face? What are the threats to the profession? What practices should be maintained to guarantee free information? So many questions at the heart of the debates, sometimes lively, which animate the Assises du Journalisme in Tours.

This forum is a unique opportunity to bring activists and decision-makers to the table to compare points of view on the challenges that our democracies must meet. The Forum encourages initiatives that aim to strengthen the foundations of democratic societies. Freedom of information is one of its pillars.

The Reporters' Memorial was erected in 2006, at the joint initiative of the city of Bayeux and RSF. This memorial honors the memory of journalists and reporters killed during conflicts or assassinated in the exercise of their profession. A promenade of white headstones commemorates the more than 2,000 journalists killed since 1944. Each year, an unveiling ceremony is held in tribute to deceased journalists.

Awards and prizes

We are regularly invited to sit on the juries that rewards the work of journalists.

Each year, an international jury of around forty members rewards journalists who work in conflict zones, sometimes risking their lives to provide access to free information. The prize list, prestigious and multi-disciplinary, is recognized throughout the world.

In a sector in perpetual technological evolution, this prize encourages innovative projects that place the right to information in French at the heart of their approach. The jury pays particular attention to the nature of the editorial project, how the information is covered, its interactivity, mobility, and accessibility.

  • RSF Prize for Human Rights from FIGRA, International Festival of Major News Reportage

The Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Prize for Human Rights was created in tribute to Olivier Quemener, a journalist assassinated in Algeria in 1994, at the start of the black decade.
The FIGRA offers a diversified program, over five days, open to all audiences.

Media literacy

Knowing how to decode an image, understanding how information is produced, understanding how the media works - these cannot be improvised!  We are committed to raising awareness among young people about the missions of journalism and the importance of free information.

This annual operation is dedicated to young students, from kindergarten to high school. A week to develop a taste for current affairs and discover the world of the media. This initiative sets out to help form critical judgment among young people as part of their future identity as citizens. Press and Media Week at School is organized by the Center for Media and Information Education (CLEMI).

The Expresso Festival is an annual youth journalism festival. Organised by the association Jets d'encre, it brings together over 300 young journalists aged between 12 and 25, for a whole weekend each year. Coming from all over France, participants produce a special issue of their newspaper, on pre-determined subjects. Each year, the festival is sponsored by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), which chairs the jury for the RSF prize, awarded to one of the festival's editorial teams.

Cinematographic works

We support four to five films a year, both fiction and documentary. The themes, characters and plots of these films resonate with our fight for freedom of information. We regularly organise previews and screening debates.
