Paraguay

No progress

Journalists and community radio stations are often the targets of threats or physical violence instigated by criminal organization or local officials, who benefit from a climate of near-total impunity. The regions along the borders with Brazil and Argentina are particularly dangerous for journalists trying to cover drug trafficking and corruption. Ownership of Paraguay’s media continues to be concentrated in a few hands, and community radio stations still struggle to survive.
