On the occasion of Earth Day, celebrated on 22 April, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) calls on governments to step up protection for environmental reporters, who are encountering growing difficulties.

At a ceremony on 28 November in Brussels, the 31st annual Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Press Freedom Prize was awarded to 5 nominees coming from different countries.

A total of 20 journalists, photographers and media outlets from all over the world, plus a journalists’ association, have been nominated for the 31st RSF Press Freedom Awards, which will be held in Brussels on 28 November.

One year after opening Press Freedom Centres in Lviv and Kyiv, RSF will visit the Ukrainian capital from 15 to 19 May to launch “Year 2” of its support for journalists and media in Ukraine and to meet with governmental and judicial officials.

An event will be held at UN headquarters on 2 May to mark the 30th anniversary. In fact, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) organised the first Press Freedom Day with UNESCO support in 1991.

Worried about the domestic and international impact of the criminal prosecution of journalists in a country ranked fifth in its World Press Freedom Index, RSF monitored the trial of Finland’s largest newspaper in Helsinki.

The secretary-general of RSF will be accompanied by close relatives and colleagues of journalists Shireen Abu Akleh, Maks Levin and Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff when he unveils the 2022 memorial stone at the Reporters Memorial in Bayeux, on 6 October.
