U Win Tin, denied Red Cross visits, to spend 76th birthday in jail
Reporters Without Borders and the Burma Media Association called for the unconditional release of Burma's best known journalist, U Win Tin, who will spend his 76th birthday in prison on 12 March 2006. He has been in prison for 16 years after being sentenced to 20 years for “anti-government propaganda”. Both organisations called for a resumption of Red Cross visits, suspended for three months.
