Two Tibetan writers released conditionally

Reporters Without Borders welcomes the recent release of two leading Tibetan writers, Tagyal and Kalsang Tsultrim, who are known by the pen names of Shogdung and Gyitsang Takmig respectively. Tagyal was released on bail on 14 October. His lawyer says he is in good health and is now with his family. Unfortunately, his release under a form of parole pending trial could last only a year and does not protect him from being arrested again. Kalsang Tsultrim was released on 15 October on condition that he does not participate in political activities. Tagyal was arrested on 23 April at the Qinghai Nationalities publishing house in Xining, in the province of Qinghai, and spent six months in a detention centre where he was not allowed to receive visits from family members. The Chinese authorities accused him of inciting separatism in his writings.
