Third Attack On TV Station Headquarters

Reporters Without Borders today deplored a new bomb attack on the Caracas headquarters of the privately-owned TV station Globovisión and called for an immediate investigation. "We regret the context of impunity surrounding this and two previous such attacks on the station this year," said Reporters Without Borders secretary-general Robert Ménard in a letter to interior and justice minister Diosdado Cabello. He noted with satisfaction the government's efforts to protect the station and called on the minister to disclose the results of enquiries into the earlier attacks. A small device, thought to be a petrol bomb, was thrown at the station's main building on 18 November, starting a fire that destroyed three vehicles but caused no injuries. It was reportedly hurled from a passing car before troops guarding the building could do anything. The attack occurred as the station was broadcasting its late-night news programme.
