Thibaut Bruttin appointed secretary-general by Reporters Without Borders’ International Council

Thibaut Bruttin was appointed secretary-general of Reporters Without Borders (RSF) at the international board meeting on 20 November 2024 attended by representatives of the organisation's seven sections: France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Finland, Switzerland and Sweden. He succeeds Christophe Deloire, who passed away last June, and held the position for over a decade.

“As RSF approaches its 40th anniversary, I am proud to say that it has developed a comprehensive approach to ensuring the future of journalism. I am convinced that RSF is only as strong as its network of bureaus, sections, representatives, correspondents, and partners. This diversity nourishes our organisation with ideas, information, and the ability to act in many countries and territories.

"Thibaut Bruttin has shown that he has the competence, energy and charisma to take our global organisation forward in its commitment to press freedom and independent journalism. In the years he has served RSF as Deputy Director General, he has been an important pillar of our positive development. That is why the six national sections of RSF International unanimously elected him to lead the organisation.

To accomplish this, Bruttin will focus on establishing RSF as an NGO that defends journalism on behalf of citizens and their right to reliable information, structuring RSF’s communities, and consolidating efforts to foster innovative projects to ensure the future of journalism.

Thibaut Bruttin was appointed Director General of RSF, the organisation behind RSF's International Council, in July 2024.
