Shots fired at journalist's home in Sardinia

IReporters Without Borders today condemned a shooting attack in the early hours of 21 October on the home of journalist Giovanni Maria Sedda in Gavoi, a village near Nuoro, in Sardinia. Six shots were fired at the front door just before 1:00 am. Sedda was at home but neither he nor anyone else was hurt. Stressing that the attack could have serious consequences, Reporters Without Borders called on the local authorities to do everything possible to identify those responsible and bring them to justice. The correspondent in Nuoro for the Sardinian daily La Nuova Sardegna, Sedda told Reporters Without Borders he was sure the attack was an act of intimidation linked to his work. He recently wrote about brawl that took place during a party in Gavoi on the night of 11 October in which a group of inebriated individuals stabbed a man. A witness's car was subsequently vandalised. People in the village held a march against violence on 20 October.
