The ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces organized a forum on the Egyptian media to which the main political groupings and leading media figures were reportedly invited although a list of guests was not released. The Council said civil society organisations could submit their demands by fax. Reporters Without Borders voiced concern that the armed forces would use the forum to dodge criticism of recent abuses for which it was responsible. It called on the council to listen to the demands for media freedom and to show new respect for the work of journalists.
