RSF appoints Clayton Weimers to new Deputy Director of its US office, in charge of advocacy

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has appointed Clayton Weimers as the new Deputy Director of its DC based US office. Weimers will spearhead RSF’s advocacy efforts in North America as part of its mission to promote and defend global press freedom—including a newly launched RSF campaign to mobilize the US for journalism in 2022.

We are thrilled Clayton Weimers has joined RSF at a time when journalism is under threat in the US and internationally,” said RSF Secretary-General Christophe Deloire. “We have created this new position to strengthen our US-focused advocacy efforts on both global and domestic right to information issues. Clayton’s work will be crucial in effectively engaging the US government and other key US stakeholders on the need for greater respect for press freedom and better protections for journalists everywhere.”

Clayton Weimers comes to RSF with a wealth of experience working in American political campaigns, writing for and advising candidates and nonprofits in elections across the country. After his time on the ground as a campaign staffer, he worked for the past six years as a consultant, writer, and campaign strategist with the firm Mission Control, Inc.. He holds a B.A. from Pitzer College and an A.M. from the University of Chicago.

“It’s an honor to join such a renowned and doggedly effective organization,” said Weimers. “RSF is synonymous the world over with press freedom. At a time when authoritarianism and disinformation are on the rise, RSF’s work on behalf of journalists and right to information has never been more vital, and I’m excited to play my part in the mission.”

RSF is an international non-profit organization that has been working for 35 years to promote and defend press freedom around the world. Through its Paris headquarters, 13 international bureaus and sections, and network of correspondents in 130 countries, as well as consultative status at the United Nations, UNESCO, the Council of Europe, and the International Organisation of the Francophonie, RSF has the experience and on-the-ground presence to effectively defend journalism on a global scale.
