Romania: RSF calls for a proper investigation into the “Kompromat” operation targeting journalist Emilia Sercan

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and its partners have published an open letter welcoming the reopened investigation into the dissemination of stolen intimate photos of journalist Emilia Sercan. The letter calls on the Romanian authorities to ensure that the very worrying errors that occurred during the first investigation will not be repeated.

A week after a Bucharest court decided to reopen the investigation into the “Kompromat” operation targeting journalist Emilia Sercan, RSF and nearly forty media outlets and organisations addressed an open letter to the public prosecutor, three ministers and the Supreme Council of the Judiciary.

‘’The first investigation ended after being terribly conducted and flawed by numerous irregularities. Therefore, the authorities must do everything in their power to ensure an independent investigation and finally bring to justice those responsible for publishing the stolen intimate photos of Emilia Sercan. This impunity is absolutely intolerable.
