Reporters Without Borders has expressed concern following the disappearance of the journalist Guy-André Kieffer

"We are very concerned about Guy-André Kieffer's disappearance. In this country that remains divided and unstable, journalists continue to work in a very volatile situation; nobody can forget the tragic death of Jean Hélène," Reporters Without Borders said. "We urge the Ivoirian authorities to take all necessary steps to ensure that the journalist is found as quickly as possible," the organisation added. Kieffer, who has dual French and Canadian citizenship, has not been heard from since 16 April. He was last seen in an Abidjan shopping centre at 1:00 p.m. (local time) on that day. His car has disappeared, his mobile phone line was cut and he has not contacted anyone since. All possible scenarios concerning his disappearance are being examined. The 54-year-old journalist, who is married and the father of three children, is an agricultural engineer by profession. He is very familiar with the African continent and has lived in Côte d'Ivoire for several years. Kieffer is an occasional contributor to several magazines and to "La Lettre du Continent", a France-based publication that focuses on Africa. He also writes for the local Ivoirian press under a pseudonym. A specialist in natural resources and business and economic affairs, he is also a member of the Commodities Consulting Company, focusing on the vital cocoa industry. Côte d'Ivoire is the top cocoa producer in the world. As such, he is well known in the local business and political world and has his share of critics. In addition, Kieffer was reportedly collaborating on a book with Louis-André Dacoury-Tabley, foreign affairs coordinator for the Patriotic Movement of Côte d'Ivoire (Mouvement patriotique de Côte d'Ivoire, MPCI) and a former close associate of President Laurent Gbagbo.
