Libya’s Gen. Haftar asked to shed light on fate of two missing journalists

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) calls on Gen. Khalifa Haftar to shed light on the fate of two journalists, Mohamed Gurj and Mohamed Chibani of Libya Alahrar Television, who were arrested near Tripoli on 2 May by the “Al Kaniat” brigade, a group affiliated to his army.

More than two weeks have gone by since their arrest and nothing is known of what happened to them. According to unverified reports circulating on social networks, the two TV journalists are dead.

We urge Gen. Haftar to shed all possible light on the fate of Mohamed Gurj and Mohamed Chibani because it is inhuman to let their families and friends wait so long without any news,” said Souhaieb Khayati, the head of RSF’s North Africa desk.

Libya is ranked 162nd out of 180 countries in RSF’s 2019 World Press Freedom Index.
