Journalists attacked by Mubarak supporters

Journalists with the BBC, Al-Jazeera, CNN, Al-Arabiya and ABC News were among those who were attacked during the clashes in Tahrir Square in the centre of Cairo between Mubarak supporters and demonstrators demanding Mubarak’s departure. Because of the confusion, it was hard to get an exact tally of the violence against the media. According to initial reports, Anderson Cooper of CNN, Jerome Boehm of the BBC and Lara Setrakian of Bloomberg were attacked by Mubarak supporters. Several journalists described the incidents on condition of anonymity. “As soon as they see a camera, they hurl themselves at it,” said a journalist who had stones thrown at him during the protests. Another said he was kicked and his camera was ripped from his hands.
