Journalist imprisoned in Karshi amid mounting pressure on independent media
Tulkin Karaev, a independent journalist and contributor to the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), was arrested in the southern city of Karshi on 4 June and has been imprisoned for a period of at least 10 days on a charge of hooliganism. Reporters Without Borders calls on the European Union and the United States to put pressure on the Uzbek president to release him.
