Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières - RSF) expresses its horror and disgust following the announcement of the barbaric execution of journalist Daniel Pearl by his kidnappers in Pakistan. Now, more than ever, we stand firmly beside his wife, Marianne Pearl, and express our solidarity with the reporters of The Wall Street Journal. We pay tribute to the memory of a great journalist, and to the courage he displayed in the terrible ordeal his jailers and murderers imposed on him. The madness that uses a journalist as scapegoat for his government's policy is the most serious threat to the right to inform in the world. We point out that, in the past twelve months, thirty journalists were killed around the world, in circumstances that increasingly involve armed, extremist, separatist or organized crime groups insensitive to any form of pressure. Nevertheless, we call on reporters everywhere to not abandon dangerous areas where it is, more than ever, important to provide information. Those who ordered and committed the execution of Daniel Pearl must be found and brought to justice. This barbaric crime must not remain unpunished. - Consult the file about Daniel Pearl
