Correspondent of El-Badil arrested in Gafsa

Ammar Amroussia, the correspondent of El-Badil (Alternative), a banned newspaper that supports the outlawed Communist Party of Tunisian Workers, was arrested in Gafsa (400 km south of the capital) after speaking at a demonstration the previous day. The police used force when they arrested him while he was looking after the shop of Afef Bennaceur, the wife of the Fahem Boukadous (a journalist detained since 15 July). Amroussia was placed in Gafsa prison on charges of violating articles 42, 44 et 49 of the press law, articles 121, 131, 132, 220b, 315 and 316 of the criminal code and article 26 of a 1969 law concerning the “organization of public meetings, processions, exhibitions, demonstrations and gatherings.” He was able to leave the prison on 17 January.
