Censorship of Geo News and Aaj TV condemned

Reporters Without Borders welcomes the fact that transmission of Geo News and Aaj TV by cable TV operators resumed yesterday in the major cities where it had been suspended at the behest of the authorities on 13 March. ---------------- Amid a wave of protests and marches by lawyers and opposition activists throughout the country, the PPP-led government today suspended cable transmission of two television stations, Geo News and Aaj TV, in several major cities. “It is shocking to see a democratic government use the same censorship measures as Pervez Musharraf's military government,” Reporters Without Borders said. “We urge the authorities in Islamabad to restore transmission of Geo News and Aaj TV without delay. Such crude censorship will in no way help to resolve Pakistan's political crisis.”
