We ask the United States Government to Secure the Safe Return of Austin Tice.

Austin Tice is an American freelance journalist who was working in Syria when he was taken captive near Damascus on August 14, 2012.

His work was published by McClatchy News, the Washington Post, Associated Press, AFP, and broadcast on CBS, NPR, and BBC. His reporting was recognized with the 2012 George Polk Award for War Reporting and the 2012 McClatchy Newspapers President’s Award, among others.

I add my name to the thousands who have expressed their desire that every available diplomatic means be used to bring Austin safely home.

Protection for journalists is protection of the fundamental right to information and freedom of expression.

Sincerely,
