RSF to provide digital security training to Moroccan journalists
As the Internet is now becoming an essential tool for journalists, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is organising digital security training in partnership with the Moroccan Young Journalists Forum (FMJJ).
RSF and the FMJJ will organise two trainings on “Digital Security for Journalists” for a total of 30 professional and student journalists in Rabat from 26 November to 1 December with the aim of reinforcing their use of digital security tools in their everyday work.
“The two trainings will enable these professional and future journalists to better exploit the opportunities offered by the Internet after being trained in cyber-security and the ethical challenges posed by the digital work environment,” said Souhaieb Khayati, the director of RSF’s North Africa bureau. “Digital security is now an essential part of journalistic work.”
Journalists are using the Internet more and more in their work. The huge volume of information available on websites and social media and the number of potential readers facilitate both research and the dissemination of information. But use of the Internet requires awareness of the ethical challenges and familiarity with all aspects of the confidentiality and security of journalistic sources.
The six days of training will also enable RSF and the FMJJ to reinforce their cooperation and their work in Morocco.
Morocco is ranked 136th out of 180 countries in RSF's 2021 World Press Freedom Index.
