How RSF invented World Press Freedom Day on 20 April 1991
An event will be held at UN headquarters on 2 May to mark the 30th anniversary. In fact, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) organised the first Press Freedom Day with UNESCO support in 1991.

RSF hails the European Parliament’s approval of an emergency resolution condemning the increase in press freedom violations in Tunisia, thereby putting pressure on the European Commission to adopt sanctions against the Tunisian authorities.
British journalist Fiona O’Brien appointed as the new RSF London bureau director
She is tasked with expanding RSF’s impact in the UK and Ireland and developing the bureau, which was opened in 2016. She will also lead advocacy campaigns on UK and international press freedom issues.
