Iran Media Help Desk Project Coordinator

 Reporters Without Borders - known internationally as Reporters sans frontières (RSF) - is an independent NGO working globally to promote the freedom, pluralism and independence of journalism. RSF is seeking a Project Coordinator to help launch and run its new Iran Media Help Desk, responding to the rapid ongoing deterioration of press freedom in Iran since nationwide protests erupted in September. The Iran Media Help Desk will provide a range of support services to journalists and media outlets at risk, both in Iran and in the diaspora abroad, with an immediate emphasis on digital security support.

 

Missions

  • Serve as the Project Coordinator for the Iran Media Help Desk, launching and implementing the project under the supervision of the Director of Operations and Campaigns and in close coordination with other RSF departments.
  • Receive and filter the external requests sent to the Iran Media Help Desk and coordinate or directly implement the response.
  • Organise a network of contacts to inform the project on an ongoing basis, and a team of experts to engage as needed, including digital security experts and Farsi-langauge translators.
  • Lead on project reporting as required by RSF and project donors.
  • Monitor press freedom developments in Iran and propose RSF reactions, including drafting tweets and press releases.
  • Serve as an RSF spokesperson on Iran, in Farsi and other languages (ideally English and French).
  • Provide strategic input for RSF’s campaigns and advocacy plans on Iran.
  • Help vet emergency assistance requests from Iran.
  • Enter press freedom violations in Iran into RSF’s exactions database.
  • Assist with Iran aspects of the World Press Freedom Index.

 

Profil

  • Experience in journalism or civil society, with a country expertise in Iran.
  • Knowledge of press freedom issues and challenges.
  • Fluency in Farsi, along with English or French.
  • Network of journalistic contacts within Iran and in the Iranian diaspora.
  • Some pre-existing digital security knowledge.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to innovate, adapt and problem-solve.
  • Personal commitment to RSF’s mission is expected.

 

Conditions

Responsible to: Director of Operations and Campaigns

Start date: November 2022

Location: RSF’s Paris headquarters

Working hours: 3-5 days per week, with a possibility to work flexibly

Contract duration : Six months, with a possibility to extend

Contract type : Working contract or service providing contract
