Because of the political and security instability of the past four years and the open conflict between the east and west of the country, journalists have to risk their lives if they want to report. In a climate of complete impunity for press freedom predators, Libya’s journalists and media are fleeing the country en masse to escape the inevitable reprisals if they stay. Reporting is all the more dangerous in Libya because the conflict’s players have made it clear they want to clamp down on press freedom even more.
